Hello everyone.
This is N-no, in charge of planning and developing Ultraman toys.


This time there's quite a lot of information, so please stick with us until the very end!
As promised last timeUltraman Omega's "ultra action figures"We'll be covering this!



The "ultra action figures" series,
In fact, it's been over seven years since its release, making it quite a long-running series.

Even up to today,Weapons are now included, and the range of motion of the neck has been increased.
We've been gradually incorporating new elements and minor changes,
As we continue a series for a long time, we as a development team also...
If this part could move, it would greatly expand the range of posing possibilities...
I wish I could strike a cooler beam pose...
- It's hard to get the flying pose right unless you point it straight up...
These and other minor details started to bother us, and the desire for a more drastic redesign grew stronger.

...And that's no surprise.
This is a bit of a digression, but actually, the Ultraman toy planning team at the product development stage included
- First person in charge of ultra action figures
- Third generation person in charge of ultra action figures
- Former manager of the "Yudo" and "SHODO SUPER" series of collectible toys.
- The first person in charge of the "Sodo" series of collectible toys.
And there were so many people who had been in charge of planning the action figure throughout the years...!

Given this background, we came to the conclusion that "this timing might be ideal for a meaningful renewal."
We decided to completely redesign the base model for Omega.

Here is the finished product!

As shown in the diagram above, there were many points we paid particular attention to, but in this renewal,
"Improved mobility" and "Enhanced quality of sculpting"Of course
"How can we ensure that it's easy to play with as a toy?"We are also giving this aspect important as we proceed with the design.
Taking all of that into consideration, I'll introduce seven topics in order, explaining "what has improved and in what way!"


① The long-awaited addition of chest articulation!!
This was a feature that many of our users had requested, and we've finally implemented "upper body articulation"!!



The ability to rotate the upper torso makes it much easier to create dynamic poses!

The range of motion is as shown in the diagram below.
...Actually, you can rotate it 360 degrees with almost no resistance.



② Hidden roll articulation added to the thighs!!
It's not immediately obvious from the outside, but we've actually added a roll axis to the thighs as well.



The image above shows the legs spread wide apart, and the joint visible on the inside is
They now move independently, making it easier to add nuance to the leg movements.

Looking at the wider shot, the range of rotation is approximately as shown in the diagram below.


Thanks to this articulation, it's now easy to create poses with the legs spread wide, and even kneel!



Personally, what I like about this design is that by placing the axis on the inside of the thigh, the range of motion is increased while avoiding visible seam lines on the exterior.



③ Ankle contact performance is dramatically improved!!
While the ball joint structure of the ankle itself remains unchanged, the ground contact has been significantly improved by revising the structure of the receiving end (toe).



Can you see how your ankle now bends inward more than before?



Even with her legs spread this wide, she can still stand on her own!!

Because your ankles make firm contact with the floor, you can maintain good balance even in poses where you've lowered your hips and sunk in.



And the ultimate example is this image!



The joints have just the right amount of stiffness, so if you balance it well, you can make it stand on its own even in a kicking pose like the one you see here!

④ Make sure your neck is tilted upwards as much as possible!!
This is another point that's hard to notice from the outside, but the range of motion of the neck has also been further expanded!

This is what it looks like from the side.



This is an element unique to Ultraman.
I want to have them strike a "flying pose" or a "pose from their entrance scene (the so-called 'Gungun cut')."
These are elements that were incorporated with that perspective in mind.



As a by-effect, posing from an overhead angle also looks incredibly good!



For those who enjoy taking photos of figure, I think this is a pretty good improvement, so please pick it up and take some cool photos of your figures from great angles!


⑤ Wow! They even added a pull-out joint!!
And there's more! As an additional element to enhance articulation, we've incorporated a pull-out joint at the base of the arms.



This structure makes it possible to pull your arms up to the front of your chest.
I can finally pull off the "ray pose" perfectly!!


This is what Omega's Reticulite Ray (= Specium Ray type) looks like.



Omega is an exception, but wide-shot type cameras make poses look even more beautiful!

These are the improvements related to "movement."
There's still more to come, so let's keep going!


⑥ The Omega Slugger comes off!!
This action figure of Ultraman Omega also includes elements that cannot be overlooked!



Instead of replacing the entire head, it's possible to seamlessly remove the slugger while keeping the original head intact.
Furthermore, the slugger parts are fixed in a surprisingly deep position, so they won't easily fall off!

With the Slugger detachable, you can enjoy a wide range of action using the space boomerang, much like the Ice Slugger!



⑦ Includes interchangeable wrists for posing!
Now, some of the elements have already been shown in the photos so far,
This time, we've adopted "interchangeable wrists specifically designed for posing."

This renovation also focused on "being able to recreate specific scenes,"
Ultraman Omega comes with the following four types of wrists:
(1) The "Omega Scope" pose, which is synonymous with Omega.
(2) A clenched fist is effective for fighting stances and punches.
(3) A straight open hand that can be used for both beam ray and flying poses.
(4) Right hand for holding items



By the way···
It's frustrating that it's difficult to understand without actually touching it,
Personally, I would recommendReplacing the wrist parts is incredibly easy.That's terrible!

They don't fall off easily during normal play,
If you twist it with the intention of "removing it",It pops off with a satisfying tug./It slides right into place when you put it on...It has an exquisite feel when putting it on and taking it off.

Replacing the wrists can be a real hassle and very stressful, so this is a detail I paid close attention to.


So, that's all for the points I wanted to share with you today!

If we list the points of articulation, some of you might worry that it has become more difficult to play with. However, as mentioned at the beginning, this time we focused on developing the toy with the goal of making it more poseable while maintaining ease of play!

I believe that the increased articulation has significantly reduced concerns about loose joints or poor posing, so I hope you'll give it a try!
