A project that could truly be called a hidden gem has been announced.

That is...

Frilled Dinosaur Jirass
is!

Those of you viewing this page are probably familiar with "Ultra Monster Advance," but
In a surprising turn of events, Jirass will be taking the stage!



Furthermore, it will be commercialized as a brand collaboration item with the " MovieMonsterSeries, " a soft vinyl figure that has been continuously creating three-dimensional figures of monsters from various special effects works, including "Godzilla"!

This is a bit too much information at this point...
Let's get right into the review while looking at the sample!

[After 59 years, a miraculous new soft vinyl has been created!]
"Jirass, the frilled dinosaur." Although it only appeared in one episode of the 1966 TV series "Ultraman," it is one of the most memorable monsters, leaving a powerful impact that belies its limited appearance.

In terms of recent three-dimensional representations, the closely related "Erimaki-Telesdon" has joined the current soft vinyl series and has also become quite a hit product.

This might be the first BANDAI made soft soft vinyl of the person in question since the limited edition soft soft vinyl that came with "Ultra Battle Zone: Great Monster Battlefield" released in the 1990s.



This is completely unrelated, but I myself have loved Jirass since I was a child, and this "Ultra Battle Zone" was my 6th birthday present.
I finally got this item after a long negotiation with my parents. The reason I wanted it was simply because I was captivated by the Jirass soft vinyl, which is only available here.
Upon reflection, the reason why the phrase "Jirass soft vinyl" evokes such an unusual sense of specialness might be due to the existence of this item.
(Are there others besides me who can relate to this formative experience...?)

Holding this newly reborn Jirass soft vinyl in my hands brings back memories of playing with soft vinyl while watching the "Ultraman Monster Ultraman " VHS tape until it was worn out...


...But let's put that aside for now.
This Jiras figure was created using a new mold to reproduce its unique design.



The more of a special effects fan you are, the more“That monster”You might think they're reusing the same mold, but
The molds used for soft vinyl vinyl figures aren't exactly flexible...

Based on the concept of reproducing Jirass's unique details and gimmicks, a specially designed sculpt was created.

Since this is a completely new sculpt, we made sure to incorporate even the smallest nuances, such as the "slightly off-center eyes" that made such a strong impression in the close-up scenes in the film.



We carefully selected the body's molded color and distinctive yellow pattern to best express Jirass's unique characteristics.

Looking at recent Blu-rays, the yellow parts in particular appear quite vivid, but in reality, trying to paint soft vinyl based on that exact impression can be tricky. The paint might end up being too flashy and stand out too much.
In this area, we considered the balance with the molded color and also referred to supplementary materials such as old monster encyclopedias and photographic materials to adopt a color scheme that is cohesive as a three-dimensional object and does not feel out of place in terms of image.


Regarding the size, it was sculpted to be approximately 160mm tall, in line with the standard size of the "MovieMonsterSeries."
That being said, this size is similar in balance to Bazanga and Nijikagachi from "Ultra Monster Advance," and is also close in scale to the old Ultra soft vinyl series. (See diagram below)

Therefore, in addition to enjoying it as part of the "MovieMonsterSeries,"
The intended point of this project is that it will look balanced and not out of place when displayed alongside the Kaiju Advance series or the original Ultraman monsters in their original size.


The scale is just right to display alongside "ultra action figures"!

[The mechanism for removing the collar has been thoroughly recreated!]
Now, this Jirass is also part of the "Ultra Monster Advance" series, so in line with the series' concept, the gimmicks recreate the scenes from the show.

In other words...The collar can be removed!



It's a memorable and iconic performance that's practically synonymous with Jirass.

Regarding the commercialization of this product:"We will not recreate it using interchangeable parts."We pursued the matter thoroughly.

To break it down more specifically,
- The collar part that is originally attached can be removed as is.
- When the scarf is removed, a scar similar to the one in the film remains on the neck.
We place great importance on this.

So, when I actually pulled on the sample scarf...

It can perfectly recreate the way it detaches, as if it were torn off right at the base, just like in the movie.

The collar itself wraps around quite securely, so it hardly rattles around when worn.

Furthermore, the scars left behind after removing the collar have also been faithfully reproduced through painting.



When we launched "Ultra Monster Advance" with the first release, Bazanga, we had always thought that we wanted to eventually commercialize monsters from the old series in this format as well...
For example, in the case of "Gomora" with a "tail-breaking gimmick," this is an element that has been reproduced many times in other figure,
If I were to actually pursue this, I wanted to choose something that had as few opportunities for commercialization as possible.

It took a little time for this project to come to fruition, but I am overjoyed that we have finally been able to create a 3D model of Jirass!
